Beverly Fire Department

A History of Service

The Beverly Fire Department is a Civil Service Department. Firefighters are hired from a list prvided by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Civil Service Commission. If you are interested in becoming a firefighter in the City of Beverly, you should visit the Civil Service Website at WWW.Mass.gov/hrd where you can learn about the testing process.

As fire departments continue to evolve, their are several opportunities that can be taken advantage of to work towards a career in firefighting. Many departments require their firefighters to be certified Emergency Medical Technicians. The EMT-Basic course is delivered at local colleges and specialty education services in the area. If you are going to take the course, be sure to use an accredited source.
Another opportunity is to take advantage of college level fire science courses. Although their is no requirement to have such educational experience, the knowledge gained can be of tremendous help throughout your career.*

*gaining EMT-B certification and a Fire Science degree does not guarantee that you will be hired by the Beverly Fire Department.
