Beverly Fire Department

A History of Service

Child Passenger Safety

The goal of the Beverly Fire Department Child Passenger Safety Division is to ensure all children are transported safely in their vehicles. We hope to accomplish this by not only inspecting car seats, but by educating parents and caregivers about the importance of properly using a child restraint. We also remind them that by wearing their seatbelt they are not only adhering to the law, but setting a good example for the child to follow.

Since 2003, Beverly firefighters have been providing the free service of car seat inspection to anyone that wishes to call and set up an appointment. More than 4,000 seats have been inspected and dozens have been identified as potentially dangerous to kids and replaced with new seats. Much of the funding for the program comes from donations made by local businesses and parents who have had their seat checked by a technician. To date the program has issued more than 100 car seats to kids who might not have otherwise had a seat.

Setting up an appointment

There are currently 3 certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians at the Beverly Fire Department. Inspections are conducted daily by appointment only. If you would like to have your car seat checked, call 978-922-2424 the day you would like to come in and ask for a car seat technician. The technician will set up a good time for you and let you know which fire station to show up at. Please remember that the technicians are also on duty firefighters and that emergency calls sometimes cause minor conflicts with scheduled times. Usually the delays are only five to ten minutes.
