Crews work on two vehicles involved in a mid day crash on Cabot St
Motor Vehicle Accident
Cabot and Union Streets
At 1217 on March 30, the Beverly Fire Department was dispatched for a report of a motor vehicle accident with injury on Cabot St at Union St. Upon arrival personnel found a two vehicle accident with a total of six occupants. Captain Michael McCadden quickly triaged the victims to determine severity of injuries and prioritize their need for transport to the hospital.
While Captain McCadden worked to manage patient care, other fire crews from Engine 1 and Ladder 1 worked on patient treatment and getting the victims into the ambulances. Firefighters also spread absorbent material on the road to collect spilled vehicle fluids on the wet roadway and assessed the basement of a home that was struck by one of the cars.
The six victims were transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries and a small amount of cosmetic damage was limited to the exterior of the home. All units were clear of the accident at 1242.
Car Fire 3/29/09
At 0026 on March 29, Engine 1 was dispatched to a report of a vehicle fire on Kernwood Ave near the Kernwood Bridge. Upon arrival, Captain Michael McCadden found a single car on the side of the road with heavy fire involving the engine and passenger compartments of the car. Captain McCadden and his crew advanced a hoseline and extinguished the fire using 750 gallons of water and two dry chemical extinguishers.
The cause of the fire appears to be unintentional caused by an electrical malfunction. The operator was uninjured but the vehicle was totaled.

Plow Fire
3/9/09 The Beverly Fire Department responded for a report of a vehicle fire on Longmeadow Rd at 1043 March 9. Upon arrival, Engine 5 found a plow truck owned by the City of Beverly with heavy fire coming from the Engine compartment extending into the passenger compartment.
Lt. Robert Atherton and firefighters Barry Lefavour and Paul Roberts stretched a hose off the truck while Firefighter Steve White operated the pump. Together the crews knocked down the heavy fire and forced the hood of the truck open.
The fire caused heavy damage to the vehicles front end and the truck was removed from the scene by tow. The operator of the vehicle who was unhurt, stated that the vehicle stalled and would not start, when he got out he saw flames under the hood and called for the fire department. The cause of the fire was attributed to the vehicles electrical system. The truck was a 1996 F350. All Fire personnel were clear of the scene by 1145.
